Founding Partner

Marcus Halverson

President · Founded EP, 1978

Marcus has been laying paver since the late seventies, when he started the company with two pickup trucks and a single crew working Phoenix custom homes. Forty-seven years later, he still walks every flagship commercial site personally before a bid goes out.

"The bid you sign should be the bid you pay. The schedule we promise should be the schedule we hold. That's the discipline. That's what 'built to last' means before the first paver hits the bed."

story-prose Body / content

Long-form narrative. EP adaptation: the company history, founding story, regional expansion. Pull-quote in Oswald uppercase teal with green left rule.

Our story

Forty-seven years, two regions, one standard.

In 1978, Marcus Halverson laid his first commercial paver job for a Scottsdale custom home builder. The crew was three. The truck was used. The bid was honest, and the install held — through forty-five summers of Sonoran heat that breaks lesser hardscape inside ten years.

By the early nineties EP had become the go-to paver subcontractor for Phoenix-area developers. By 2005, the company had crossed into California and Nevada. In 2014 — driven by long relationships with hospitality groups expanding south — EP opened the Atlanta regional office, and what had been a Southwest specialty became a two-region specialty.

The bid you sign should be the bid you pay.

The discipline hasn't changed. Pre-construction planning before bid. Premium materials sourced direct. Crews trained inside the company, never subbed. Every project documented. Every warranty honored.

beliefs-list Body / content (adapted: values-list)

Numbered convictions in a 2-column grid. EP adaptation: the 4 operating principles. Mono-numbered, Oswald uppercase title, light Jakarta body.

What we hold to

01

Pre-construction is the work.

The site analysis, drainage design, and subgrade spec done before a single paver lands decide whether the install holds for forty years or fails in eight. The planning is not a phase before the work — it is the work.

02

Premium materials, direct.

Direct relationships with foundries on three continents mean we ship what was specified, when it was specified, at the price we promised. No swap, no surprise, no "the supplier short-shipped us, sorry."

03

Crews trained inside.

Every paver crew working an EP job is an EP employee. We do not sub. The same crew that started apprenticeships with us in 2010 is leading bids today.

04

Documented warranty.

Every project ships with a written, dated, scope-specific warranty. We file it. We honor it. We come back when called — and the warranty crew is the same crew that did the install.

Two-column row — text left, image right. The most common editorial-section layout. Pair with the flipped variant for visual rhythm.

Climate Engineering

Pavers that hold through monsoon and freeze.

Our Phoenix-region installs see surface temperatures past 160°F every July. Atlanta installs absorb 50+ inches of rain a year and short freezes nearly every January. Same paver system — different subgrade, different drainage, different joint sand spec — engineered for each climate before bid.

Materials Library

Porcelain, natural stone, manufactured concrete.

We carry direct relationships with foundries in Italy, Spain, India, and stateside. Porcelain pavers in 60+ finishes. Natural travertine, limestone, sandstone, and granite by quarry of origin. Manufactured concrete in any spec a structural engineer signs off on.

Why developers come back

The same three answers, project after project. The discipline is uniform — that's why it's a discipline.

01

Bid integrity

The number we sign is the number you pay. No change orders driven by "we missed something in pre-con." Pre-construction is on us.

02

Schedule integrity

The dates we promise are the dates we hold. Materials lead-time risk is on us — we manage upstream relationships so you don't have to.

03

Install integrity

The crew that bids the job is the crew that runs the job. No second-tier subs. No quality drift. Every paver hand-set by EP employees.

Frequently asked

What's the typical bid timeline?

For commercial projects, we return a complete pre-construction plan and fixed bid inside two business days from the brief. For municipal RFPs we follow the agency's calendar. For residential, we walk the site within five business days and return the bid inside three days after.

Do you sub out paver installation?

No. Every paver crew on every EP job is on EP payroll. We do not sub installation. This is how we hold the integrity bar — and it's the most common reason developers come back.

What regions do you actually cover?

Southwest: Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah. Southeast: Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee. Outside those regions we'll consult on materials and pre-construction but won't bid an install.

What's the warranty?

Every install ships with a written, scope-specific, dated warranty. Commercial standard is 10 years on subgrade and joint integrity, 25 years on the paver itself per manufacturer terms. Residential is 5 / 25.

accordion-v2 Generic content blocks (card-style)

Same content, but each item in its own bordered 22px-radius card with hover lift. Use when each item carries more visual weight.

What does pre-construction actually include?

Site analysis, soils review, drainage design, subgrade engineering, materials selection with foundry direct quotes, schedule build, and a written scope-of-work. All before a bid is finalized — so the bid reflects what we'll actually need to do, not a guess.

How do you handle materials that are stuck at port?

Our direct foundry relationships include shipping. We track every container from foundry to port to your job site. If a delay is upstream of us we know about it weeks before installers do, and we have buffer schedule and substitute spec ready before you ask.

Will my schedule slip?

Our 10-year average on commercial schedule slip is under 4%. The dates we promise are the dates we hold barring genuinely unforeseeable events (federally-declared weather, owner-driven scope change). Every other delay risk is on us.

tab-section-v1 Generic content blocks (horizontal tabs)

Horizontal tabs above content panels. EP framing: lime green underline marks active tab. Use for "by audience" — commercial / residential / municipal.

For developers

Bid integrity, schedule integrity, install integrity. Pre-construction handled in-house. Direct material relationships. EP-employed installation crews on every job. The same trio of certainties that brings retail and hospitality groups back project after project.

For architects

Spec collaboration from concept through construction documents. Material samples shipped overnight. Subgrade and drainage detailing reviewed by our PE before bid. Performance documentation for every spec we install.

For homeowners

Driveways, patios, pool decks, custom hardscape. Five-day site walk turnaround. Three-day bid turnaround after the walk. The same crew works your house as runs the largest commercial bids — that's the bar.

For municipalities

Bid documents and permitting handled in-house. ADA compliance built into every spec, never bolted on. References from civic projects across both regions available on request.

tab-section-v2 Generic content blocks (vertical tabs)

Vertical tabs left, content panel right. EP framing: 3px teal left border on active tab, white panel ground. Use for long-form per-tab content (process phases, project types).

Pre-construction

Site analysis, soils review, drainage design, subgrade engineering, materials selection with foundry direct quotes, schedule build, and written scope-of-work. The phase that decides whether the rest holds up.

Materials

Direct foundry sourcing in Italy, Spain, India, and stateside. Container-tracked from origin to job site. Buffer inventory in both regional offices. Substitute specs pre-approved before the project starts.

Installation

EP-employed crews only. Foreman walks every job daily. Photo documentation of every subgrade phase before paving begins. ADA-compliant placement on every project, regardless of code requirement.

Close-out

Written, dated, scope-specific warranty. Maintenance schedule tailored to the install. Annual courtesy walk-through for the first three years on commercial projects. Warranty calls answered by the same crew that did the work.
